Virginia Beach

A couple of weeks ago, as we were deciding what to do to celebrate Valentine's Day, Dave got the brilliant idea of taking a little road trip. Neither of us had ever been to Virginia Beach and since it is in the dead of winter, hotels were REALLY cheap :) Virginia Beach is a 4 hour drive and Lacey is great in the car, so it was a very doable trip. We left on Friday and stayed in VB for 2 nights. We had decent weather fortunately, so were able to enjoy a nice walk along the boardwalk and going to visit Old Cape Henry Lighthouse, pictured here. We climbed to the very top, which had spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. This lighthouse is the oldest government funded lighthouse in the nation, built in the 1700's, commissioned by George Washington. We had a great Valentine's/President's day weekend!

The Envelope

To know or not to know..... that is the question! When we found out we were pregnant with Lacey, we both were really excited to do the "surprise thing" and not find our her gender ahead of time. Even during the ultrasound, neither of us were even tempted to change our minds and find out if he/she was a "he" or a "she." We both loved the anticipation, deciding on boy names as well as girl names and the best was the actual delivery when they finally pulled her out and exclaimed. "It's a girl!" It was so great! In fact, it was so great that when we found out we were pregnant with #2, we were both on board that we would be surprised again.

Therefore, you can imagine my surprise when I showed up for our ultrasound two weeks ago only to find Dave in the waiting room (he drove there straight from work), look at me and sheepishly say "So, I think I want to find out this time." "What?", I respond. "We're here at the ultrasound and you're changing your mind? When did you change your mind?" He replies that he was thinking about it at work that day and started thinking that he wanted to know. All of a sudden I wanted to know too, but I was scared that if I changed my mind so spur of the moment, I would then regret it. They called my name to bring me back for the ultrasound and we were still undecided -- ahhh! So, after discussing our dilemma with the sonographer, we were told to "look away" while she was taking bladder measurments and seeing the gender of our baby and we were then sent home with......... The Envelope. The Envelope is sealed and written on the front by the sonographer are the words "Boy or Girl???" So, we get home, put the envelope on the coffee table and stare at it for the next 3 days. Do we open it? Do we rip it up? The suspense was killing me, yet I still wasn't convinced I wanted to know. So Dave took the envelope and hid it somewhere in our home. Thankfully I have absolutely no idea where it is and that has definitely helped with the temptation of ripping it open or ripping it up. So, that is where we are at........ to know or not to know.
