Megyn Kelly Today

With so many shows being taped in NYC in front of live studio audiences, we decided to take advantage of the opportunity, so on our final day in NYC, we decided to be a part of a live studio audience for Megyn Kelly Today (the 4th hour of the Today Show).

No cameras were allowed inside the studio, so these are the only two pics I have.  We sat right on the floor right in front of her chair and the whole experience was a lot of fun!  The first two segments, she did a round table discussion with three other people including Jenna Bush Hager and then she did two more segments about various topics with random guests.  After the show was over, she opened it up to the audience for questions, so of course I took advantage of the opportunity.  I told her I was going to steal Barbara Walter's favorite question and wanted to know who the most interesting person is she has ever met/interviewed and who the most interesting person is that she would like to meet/interview.  She said the Pope in answer to the person she would most like to meet/interview, especially with the current scandal that the Catholic Church is dealing with.  In answer to my other question, she said Oprah and then made the comment that she felt bad that Oprah never had children because she would have been such a good mom and she feels like despite everything she's ever done, she's missed out on one of the most amazing life experiences.

And then, speaking of parenthood, after the show, we grabbed burgers at Shake Shack and hopped on a train back home to our babies. 💗💙💗💗

US Open

While we tacked on some "fun New York stuff" on either end of this, the main reason we came to NYC was to attend the US Open.  Dave loves tennis.  Let me rephrase that.... Dave LOVES tennis!  This is his 6th time at the US Open and the 2nd time I've tagged along with him.
We got there before the doors opened at 9:30 and packed in as much as we could over the next 13 hours.

John Isner

Our only disappoint of the day was that Dave's favorite player, Roger Federer wasn't playing and didn't use the practice courts either, so this was as close as we got to him - boo!

Caroline Wozniacki (my fav!) practicing on Arthur Ashe

Venus Williams

Maria Sharapova

Patrick Mouratoglou - Serena William's Coach

Arthur Ashe selfie..... getting ready for the opening ceremonies

Kelly Clarkson performed - love her!

Serena Williams

And lots of celeb sightings!  I only had my cell phone camera, so this isn't a great pic, but let me orient you....  See that blue camera?  Ok just behind that camera are three people and the one in the middle is Mike Tyson.  Just behind Mike Tyson is Anna Wintour. To the right of Anna is Vera Wang (wearing the sunglasses).  Directly behind Anna and Were are three people.  The middle person in the dark hair and white shirt is Hugh Jackman.  To the left of Hugh is his wife and to the left of his wife is an empty chair.  Gayle King was sitting in this chair just a minute before I took this picture.
Now go back down to the Mike Tyson row and go across the aisle.... that is Katie Couric sitting next to her husband.

And then to round out the night, we watched David Ferrer and Rafa Nadal.
What a day!

The Big Apple

Dave and I just settled into our hotel at the end of Day 1 of a 3-day/2-night NYC kid-free getaway.
We've been to NYC many times together and have done all the big NYC "things to do" so we set out to try and do some new things off the beaten path.
We started out the day at the Met Cloisters.

The Met Cloisters is currently housing a Heavenly Bodies exhibit.

From there, we embarked on a custom-made (by Dave) foodie tour.
We started at Economy Candy because.....

they are the only store in the US (that Dave knows of) that sells the real German Hairbo smurfs.

And then we went to 10Below which hand rolls your ice cream. Yum!

From there, we went to Pasteis de Nata for homemade pastries.

Delish!

And then we wrapped up around dinner time with tacos at Los Tacos No. 1
Of note.... this place was so good that after we got settled in for the night, Dave turned to me and said "I have to have more of those tacos!" So, we put back on our shoes, headed back out to the city and got more tacos!  We recommend the steak and the pork.

We also went to City Hall Park

The Titanic Memorial

And South Street Seaport with beautiful views of the Brooklyn Bridge

As much as I've loved the weather, the culture, the food and the new sights.... most of all, I've just loved being with my love.

A Whole New World

Our local Performing Arts Center just finished it's third musical. After watching Lacey star in the first two, Tanner wanted to throw his hat in the ring and tried out for their third show... Aladdin.  He was cast as Iago, Jafar's sidekick.

The cast

Great costumes, talented kids, awesome scenery or "screenery" as I call it :).  Just an all around great show!

Jafar and Iago

Dear Tanner/Iago, You "crushed" it!  You were so "smart" knowing all your lines.  It "Blew" us away! It made us "laugh" and be "jolly"!  You were a "star."  Hugs, Mom and Riley
(The rest of the crew - Dave, Lacey, Ella and Grandpa went to the show last night).

Awesome job, Sophia and Tanner!  You rocked it!

Tanner's good friend John was in the show also (the guard at the right" and he had two friends come to the show tonight to watch him and cheer him on, which was so fun for him.  This is their "serious" pose....

And their goofy one.

My cute little Iago

Stage and Screen, you did it again!
Great job, Tanner!  Your first play is now under your belt!
