Lucky Charms

Lucky Charm #1

Lucky Charm #2

I tried to get a picture of my lucky charms together in one shot, but Lucky Charm #2 doesn't exactly sit still and pose for pictures. As you can see, I barely got a shot of just him! And alas, despite my lucky charms, I didn't get all that much luck on St. Patrick's Day! On my way home from dropping my in-laws off at the airport, I decided to stop at the park and let the kids play. When we decided to head home, I got the kids all loaded in and went to start my car. Nothing. Zilch, Zero, Nada. Didn't make a sound. Are you kidding me? Ugh! Dave was at work and always goes straight to class after work every Wednesday. But, thankfully, he talked to his Professor and was able to come home after work. We tried jumping the car. I didn't think that was it since we hadn't been at the park all that long and I was pretty sure I hadn't left any lights on. Sure enough, still nothing. So, we had to call a tow truck and have our car towed away to the shop.

Then, we went home and I started dinner. It was already after 6 at this point and we were all hungry. And then..... the power goes out. And stays out. So much for dinner! So, against our better judgement, we took this kids out to a local pizza place for dinner. While there, we were reminded why we never, ever go out to eat with our kids. So, about 30 seconds after our food arrived, we asked for a to-go box and came back home. Our power was still out - and stayed out for 18 hours.

However, I am happy to report that although the "luck of the Irish" passed me by on St. Patty's Day, we now have our car back and operational and our power is back on. Yeah!

Michael Phelps

Did you watch the 2008 Summer Olympics? And were you absolutely mesmerized by watching Michael Phelps win 14 gold medals? I know we were! So, when Dave happened upon a small article in the paper the other day that mentioned that Michael Phelps would be swimming at the Maryland Swimming Championships at the Naval Academy (practically in our backyard), we had to go! Like the article said, "It's not likely you'll ever see LeBron James compete in a local three-on-three tournament or Tiger Woods tee it up in a friendly scramble at the municipal course just down the street from his house. But this weekend, Phelps will be just another face in the crowd at the short-course meet where a majority of the competitors are teenagers or younger." So, while the location wasn't China and the event wasn't the Olympics, we got to see Michael Phelps compete! And you can't beet a 10-minute commute and free admission! So, here he is, winning (of course!) the 200-yard IM in 1:40.58. Enjoy!
